The 2010 "Whitehead" Family Reunion

The last Family Reunion, 2008 was a tremendous hit. The Greensboro site was great and many of you have said that you enjoyed it. Having the opportunity to see the different sites on the tour was an impressible experience. Heartfelt thanks, on behalf of the Whitehead Family Reunion Committee, is extended to all of the Whitehead members because of YOU, the family participation, this would not have been possible.

The 2010 Whitehead Family Reunion will be held July 23-25 in Cordele, Georgia at the Country Inn and Suites. The reason for this is so that we may be able to celebrate the oldest living member of the Whitehead family, Mr. Tyme Whitehead’s birthday. He will be a century, 100 hundred years old. The request was made that we keep the reunion in the area closest to his hometown. Since he lives in the rural area of Unadilla, Georgia and there are not any suitable hotels around that area, we are moving it to the next best place which is Cordele.

The city of Cordele - in Crisp County - "is a picturesque rural community located conveniently on I-75, just 140 miles from Atlanta and 100 miles from the Florida State Line. It is a community proud of its ability to combine the tranquility of a small town with the advantages of many larger communities." The largest recreation facility in Crisp County is Lake Blackshear. This is 8,700 acres of pure paradise that offers fishing, paddling and water skiing activities along with two park museums, 10 rental cottages and several group shelters for reunions, picnics and other family get-togethers. Also of special interest is the SAM Shortline Excursion Train. The SAM Shortline Excursion offers several exciting "day trips" to a variety of historical Georgia locations, including at least one layover city where you may shop for an hour or more. Come with us and take a train ride on the SAM Shortline.

It is always a blessing to enjoy and help celebrate the longevity of the Whitehead family. God has really blessed the family because very few families are able to say that there is a person still alive and going strong at 100 years old. Would not it be a blessing if we all could live to get to be that age? In recognition of this, we ask that you put your heart into it and enjoy. We know that this was not the original venue (Boston) but the change is really worth it.

We know the economy is changing but we are still trying to obtain some good rates. The room rate is $59 plus tax for a standard room and $69 plus tax for a suite, per night. This rate is good if we are able to book 50 rooms or more but if there are less than 50 rooms used, the rate will be $64 and $74, respectively. Reservations may be made anytime starting now.

The price per individual is $70, $130 for a family or two, $230 for a family of four and $45 for each additional member over four. You may start paying on your money now or anytime before May 1, 2010. We are asking that all money be turned in on or before the above date as this will give us time to get everything we need.

At the 2008 Whitehead Family Reunion, our family remembered the past, celebrated the present and anticipated the future -- all this while thanking God and being thoughtful to each other.

Friday Night – Registration

7:30 p.m. - Getting acquainted, reminising (photos from last family reunion) and registration.

Saturday Morning – Breakfast

7:00-8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast

Saturday Morning/Afternoon – Historic Train Ride

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Train ride and sightseeing.

Saturday Night – Banquet

7:30 p.m. Banquet

Sunday Morning – Church Service

Big Poplar Spring Baptist Church - Annual Homecoming Services

Services will be held at Cousin Tyme's Home Church - Big Poplar Spring. Every year, many people who grew up in the area will come home for this service. You will be surprised at the number of people that you will see whom you may not have seen in years. The young people will enjoy meeting friends whom their parents grew up with.

Here are the church service times:
Sunday School:  10:00 a.m.
First Service:  11:30 a.m.
Evening Service:  2:00 p.m.

The speaker for the evening service will be Vivian Whitehead, Plenty Whitehead’s daughter. Dinner will be served.
